Is there an 1111 connection with the Villisca Ax Murder House???

In June of this year, I will be heading back to the Villisca Axe Murder house, in Villisca Iowa, for my fifth investigation to the location, in seven years! (I go back so often, because the place definitely has something unusual if not supernatural going on!)

Previously I investigated the house in June of 2008, September, 2008, May, 2009 and my last investigation at the location was October 10, 2010.  Since I am returning,  I thought it would be of interest to post a story that Darwin Linn who owned the house at the time of my previous investigations and who has since passed away, told me.

Those of you who know me or who have followed my paranormal investigations on Facebook or this blog, are probably aware of two things.  One is the strange connection I seem to have with the numbers 1-11- 111 and especially 1111 and the other is how on two occasions after I investigated the Villisca house, (September 2008 and again in October 2010), something followed me home. "Yes, followed me home!" This article is not to try and convince anyone that what I experienced in September , 2008 and again in 2010 happened,  nor do I need to convince myself or go back to convince myself, because I lived the things which I will briefly describe.  What I witnessed and experienced were things I didn't believe possible!  Maybe I would need further proof that it happened, if it wasn't for others, including my wife, son, friends and co-workers who also experienced the things that took place, especially in 2008.  What I now go back for, is to try and figure out, "why me?"

MY 1111 CONNECTION
I have been seeing the number "1", and combinations of the number one in the form of, 1, 11, 111, 1111 so often that some would call it freakish! It’s not an occasional occurrence it’s something I experience all of the time and have for as long as I can remember.

A good example of this was a day in which my wife and I were meeting friends for a trip to the Chicago Auto Show. The morning we were suppose to meet them, we were running a bit late. We left home, and were driving down Illinois route 104 heading to Chatham, Illinois where  our friends live. As we were traveling along, we passed rail cars that were parked along the highway on a sidetrack. There are always railroad cars full of coal sitting adjacent to the highway, due to a nearby power plant. This day, there were probably seventy to a hundred cars parked and full of  coal.

All of the rail cars have serial numbers on the side, which I have seen many times before. As we were driving along, suddenly I was overcome by the thought that if I turned to my left and looked out of the drivers side window , I would see the number 1111 on one of the cars. This wasn't just a casual thought, the thought was so strong thatI knew I had to look.  So immediately I turned my head and sure enough,  the the first railcar we passed, had in large white numbers, serial number 1111. I remember thinking to myself how freakish it was to have such an overwhelming feeling, then moments later the premonition turn out to be accurate.

We continued down the highway a few miles and since we were running late, I decided to take a short cut, down a road, known as the "New City blacktop. When I turned onto the blacktop, I saw the highway sign, which I had never noticed before. As it turns out, the New City blacktop, is Christian County highway 11.

The shortcut made that trip a bit faster, and when we pulled into tour friends driveway, I glanced at the clock in our vehicle. We arrived at exactly 11:11 A.M.

After picking up our friends, we headed for Chicago, using Interstate 55. Or,  "5 x 11 = 55." A short time into the trip, our friend invited us to her daughters birthday party which would be held a few weeks later. It was for her 11th birthday! When we arrived at the Chicago Auto Show, we went directly to buy our tickets for the event. I told the gentleman at the ticket booth, that I needed a ticket for my wife and one for myself. He said, "OK,that will be $11.00 for you and $11.00 for the lady! Then he laughed and said,  "Lucky 1111 sir!"

Another clear example of my 1111 experiences, happened a few years ago on a Saturday morning, while I was driving down Clearlake Avenue in Springfield, Illinois. As I was driving, I received a text message. When I looked at my phone, it was exactly 11:11A.M. When I glanced back up, I had to slam on my brakes, as I was about to rear ended a car. The license plate of the car was, "you guessed it",  "1111." That was the first time that I had ever seen that plate number and have not seen it since.

A few more what I call synchronicities, include, my first baseball uniform assigned to me when I was seven years old, was number 11. My name, Larry Wilson, has 11 letters, I live in Taylorville, 11 letters, I work in Springfield, 11 letters, my birthday is, October 1, or 10-1. Heck, I even work at the intersection off 1111!  My office building is located at the intersection of, 100 North First, 100 S. First, 100 East Jefferson and 100 West Jefferson! Take out the zeros,  from the street address and whats left...1111! Oh and I drive route 29, 2 + 9 = 11, to work everyday as well. With the exception of my uniform number during my high school years, which is a number that I asked for due to being a huge Joe Torre fan as a kid. All of my baseball uniforms were either number 11, or the number added up to number 11. My uniform number at Springfield College in Illinois "SCI", was 47, or 4+7 = 11. When I played four years for a thirty "30" and over league, my number was 29 or 2+9 = 11.

Many believe that repeating number sequences, “in all its forms” such as 222, 333, 444 and so on, most often begins with seeing the numbers 1111.  Once 1111 is acknowledged, many times the number sequence changes to another combination.

Others believe that the 1111 phenomena is a sort of wake-up call from the spiritual or supernatural side. Some say that it is the Cosmic Consciousness trying to get our attention.  Others see it as a key to unlock the subconscious mind, which is reminding us, that we are not physical beings having a spiritual experience, but rather are spiritual beings having a physical experience.

When we start noticing, or seeing these repeating number sequences such as 1111, we also start to notice an increase in synchronicities and what skeptics call coincidence. But, if you know me, you know that I no longer believe in coincidence.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE VILLISCA HOUSE

As mentioned, I have investigated the “Villisca Ax Murder House” in Iowa, on four occasions, and on two occasions something negative followed me home. I can say this without hesitation, due to all of the unusual and negative things that happened to me after I returned home from these two particular investigations. Because not only did I experience what came home with me, so did my wife, son and friends!

I won't spend a great deal of time discussing what happened after I returned from the two investigations, because I discuss the unusual events in great detail in my first book, Chasing Shadows. One thing I want to point out, is that the Villisca House is located six hours from my home in Taylorville, Illinois and the last time that I returned from an investigation, things started happening within minutes of arriving home.

Some of unusual things that happened, included, seeing "things", which I can best describe as  "Shadows of people" and hearing voices in my own home, at work and pretty much everywhere I went. Many times I heard the voices or my name called, even when no one else was around. Over a period of three months, I heard my name, "Larry" whispered out loud and always in my right ear!  This wasn't just a whisper, it was like someone shouted a whisper in my ear! When this happened, everything would get silent, as if I was in some type of a sound proof vacuum. This occured four (4) different times over the course of an almost four month timeframe. I'm not sure why it was always my right ear, but is was. After the second time that I had heard my name called, I started to think that I was going crazy, that something was wrong with me! That is, until a friend of mine at work, who didn't know what was going on with me at the time, came to me one day and said, "You are not going to believe this, but I just heard your name whispered in my ear!" When I asked her which ear that she heard it in, she immediately responded, "My right ear!" This would not be the only time that she heard my name called, as a few weeks later, she heard it again!

One night while driving home, I witnessed the face of an old man, next to my face in the rearview mirror of my car. I saw him plain as day, then he disappeared. That was one of the most unnerving things that I had ever witnessed in my life! At times, I smelled foul odors that seemed to pop up out of the blue, mechanical things would constantly break down when I was around, not occasionally, but all the time!  I became depressed and had never been depressed in my life. Little insignificant things, became major issues! At work, if someone approached me to have a conversation, everything was fine, fine that is unless someone else joined the conversation. When this would happen, not occasionally, but every time, the two people, would end up either arguing or mad at each other. Wherever I went, negativity followed!

These are just some of the things that I experienced after returning from the house in 2008. Many more unusual and negative things happened, but I think you get the picture.

After seeing the face of the old man in my rearview mirror, I went to the local Barnes and Noble to research hauntings and to try and figure out how to stop what was going on! In one book, I found a chapter on spirit attachment. In the chapter, it had a checklist of twenty things, that were possible signs of spirit attachment. I had eighteen (18) of the twenty signs listed on the checklist.

The strange events I just described, started happening after I investigated the house and helped in the making of a documentary. This was on September 8th & 9th of 2008. I also experienced similar unusual occurrences, after an investigation on October 10th, 2010. The other two times that I investigated the house, June of 2008 and May of 2009, nothing happened when I returned home!

(If you are interested in reading more of what happened after I returned home from the Villisca house,  there is an entire chapter devoted to this in my book, "Chasing Shadows!"

THE GRUESOME HISTORY OF 508 EAST THIRD STREET, VILLISCA, IOWA
“Here is a brief description of the story of the murders at the Villisca House."

On June 10, 1912, sometime between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 5:00 O'clock in the morning, a string of gruesome murders took place at the J.B. Moore residence in the small town of Villisca, Iowa. This would soon come to be known as the worst mass homicide in Iowa history. The eight victims, all bludgeoned to death, were Josiah B. Moore (age 43), his wife Sara Moore (age 39), their children Herman (age 11), Katherine (age 10), Boyd (age 7), and Paul (age 5). Two overnight guests in the home, Lena Stillinger (age 11) and Ina Stillinger (age 8), were also murdered in similar fashion. Police located the murder weapon; it was a large axe owned by Josiah Moore. The axe was found in a small bedroom downstairs, propped up against a wall, near the bodies of Lena and Ina Stillinger. There were many suspects in the murders, but no one was ever charged, and the case remains unsolved to this day.

1111 Connection to the Villisca House

The Story, as told to me by Darwin Linn…

In 1911 the son of a prominent Villisca family was killed in a race riot in Oklahoma. It seems that the man was in the wrong place at the wrong time, as he wasn't a part of the riot, but somehow was caught up in the crossfire during the unrest and was shot to death. His body was returned to Villisca for burial, and his widow, who was a Native American, accompanied him. The parents of the young man, were not fond of their sons wife, some believe it was because of her heritage as a Native American. Darwin Linn, told me that the wife was not to be allowed to attend the funeral services in the family’s home in Villisca. A prominent Villisca businessman heard how the widow was being treated, so he instructed the funeral director to hold two seats at the front of the service, so that she could attend.
Shortly before the service was to begin, the businessman escorted the widow to the seats.
The parents of the deceased were not pleased and after the service, the widow was told that she was not welcome at the graveside for burial.

As the funeral procession was lining up, the businessman arrived with a buggy and sitting next to him was the widow. They attended the funeral, and immediately after the service, the widow left for her home. No one seems to know, if she ever returned to Villisca after that, but what is known, is that she departed with strong ill will toward her late husband's family.
On the night of June 10th or morning of June 11th, 1912, someone entered the home of Joe Moore and murdered Joe, his wife Sarah, their four children and two young sisters Ina and Lena Stillinger, who were spending the night at the Moore’s house. They were all murdered with an ax!

The crime scene was far from secured, and was a nightmare from an investigative standpoint. Curious on lookers ran amuck in the house for several hours contaminating evidence, before investigators were able to finally secure the house. One piece of evidence that was found, were footprints, found at the end of the porch that appeared as if someone had jumped off of the porch. The peculiar thing about the footprints is that the person, who jumped, was wearing moccasins! Darwin told me that some of the locals believed that the widow had one of her Native American friends come to Villisca to avenge the wrongs that had been done to her at her late husband's funeral. One rumor was that the Moore family and Stillinger girls murders, were as a result of the murderer or murderers, entering the wrong house, and killing the wrong family!

The belief is that the murderer/murderers were given the Presbyterian church as a landmark. In order to find the house, the murderer was told to count off a certain number of homes to find the location where the hit was to take place. Because, the Moore’s house, was eleven (11) houses East of the Presbyterian Church and the home of the intended target was located eleven (11) houses North of the Church. It was believed by some town folk, that the wrong house was selected, and an innocent family and friends were murdered that night.

Did eight innocent victims possibly die due to a foul up in directions to the intended house? This unfortunately, is a question, that will probably never be answered.

Eleven Houses East…Eleven Houses North…

1111?
